Ohio's Vision for College Tech Prep

Systemic Change
College Tech Prep programs demonstrate systemic change. New, creative, and innovative options are provided to students. These options focus on systemic change at the high school and college levels rather than a simple linkage of traditional programs.

Expanded Student Opportunity
College Tech Prep programs expand opportunities for all students.

Partnerships
College Tech Prep programs represent a partnership between secondary education, postsecondary education, and business, industry, and labor.

Early Individual Career Education
Early career education and career exploration are essential to College Tech Prep programs. Starting with the student's Individual Career Plan (ICP) in grade 9, College Tech Prep programs arrange the study of mathematics, science, communication, technology, and specific technical skills in a step-by-step progression of coordinated curricula.

Competencies
Academic, technical, and employability competencies are required at both the high school and college levels. Students can enter employment at both the completion of the 12th grade as well as the end of the postsecondary program.

Advanced Skills
Through an unduplicated program of study that is responsive to the changing technical needs of business, industry, and labor, College Tech Prep curricula prepares students with the advanced skills necessary for technical occupations by the end of the two-year postsecondary degree, school-to-work, or an apprenticeship program.
